Hidden journaling: “Your Grandfather (my Dad) died a year and a half before you were born. He didn’t even know that we were planning to have you. I wish he’d known, because he loved his grandchildren dearly. He used to sit for hours cuddling with your cousins (and your brother when he had the chance). It was a treat to see the happiness in his eyes when he was with his grandchildren.

The day after you and I came home from the hospital, I got a phone call. I was tired and emotional, like most mothers at this stage, and I was a little confused when I answered the phone. I thought it was my Dad on the other end. It didn’t process – and I didn’t realize it was your Uncle Dan (my brother) until he asked me if I knew who he was.

My response was “I thought I did, but it couldn’t be him”.

Your Uncle Dan sounds just like your grandfather on the phone. I wanted so much to hear his voice that I thought it was my Dad. I had a good long cry after that. I wished he could have been here - I wanted so badly for your grandfather to meet you.

He would have loved you.”

this is so beautiful and your journaling moved me. my dad was already sick with cancer when my son was born. He always wanted to hold and carry him but he couldn't. this just made me cry and long for my dad too.
